Ms. Emerson

Hello My Name Is...

Ms. Emerson

Welcome to My Classroom!

Hi ya'll! My name is Megan Emerson and I am absolutely over the moon to be your student's 3rd grade teacher at Jackson Park Elementary this year! I am a Kannapolis City kid, and I feel like I have come home to teach this school year! I could not ask for a better place to be.

I graduated from AL Brown in 2010, and went on to Appalachian State in Boone for my undergraduate degree. I received my Non-Profit Public Relations degree and ended up missing working with students every day like I had during a few different internships. So, I went back to school and finished the Graduate Program at UNC Charlotte to teach Elementary Education. Last year I taught part of the year at Beverly Hills Elementary School in Cabarrus County. I loved my Kindergarten/First Grade combination class, but I am so much happier with this group of 3rd graders!

We have lots of wonderful things in store for this year, and I cannot wait to share everything with you!

Please feel free to contact me by email, through Class Dojo or by school phone at (704) 933-2935.

College(s) Attended/Degrees Earned:

UNC Charlotte - Graduate Program (Elementary Education)
Appalachian State University - Nonprofit Public Relations

Educational Philosophy/Vision:

I believe that every child deserves to receive that absolute best education they can. I feel responsible for the outcomes that they will produce every day, and if I expect their best then they deserve my best. Every minute of every day is a valuable amount of time and if we waste it then we're wasting their education. I also believe in never giving up, and if something is difficult today then we work harder on it tomorrow.

What We are Studying:

We are working on some amazing things this year! Here is a glimpse into what we have so far. I'll be posting on a separate page some helpful hints/tricks to help your students at home!

Reading: We are working very hard on our class "Reading Stamina," so ask your student to tell you what this means! Our class goal is 15 minutes right now, and we are well on our way to making that soon! I am so excited to see how we progress throughout the year. Every student will have a "book bin" to hold a variety of books that are a "good-fit" for them. We are reviewing the IPICK strategy to help us find those "good-fit" books. We are also learning a little more about our "Daily 5" routine that we will use throughout Readers' Workshop time!

Math: We started the year with reviewing the different math tools that we can use for hands-on learning! Soon we will be starting our first Math Unit! This means we will be working more on place value and adding and subtracting within the 100s and then the THOUSANDS! We will also be working on two-step word problems and using the different operations to find the answer.

Writing: The 3rd grade teachers have been learning different ways to learn new and fun ways to teach Writers' Workshop this year! We will be decorating our notebooks to make them more personable. Any pictures that your student can have to glue to the front would be great!

Things parents/guardians can do to help:

Please check the Red Folder and Agenda every night! There may be an important note from me, or another teacher in these! We also send home a monthly 3rd Grade newsletter with updates in the Red Folder.

Also check your Class Dojo account regularly! I love to use Dojo in my room, and often post updates throughout the day with pictures so that you can see what we are accomplishing in Room 26! Dojo also gives me a quick method of communication and to remind you about homework and other important papers!

The Homework Agreement Form will be coming home tomorrow! On this form will tell you about the 3rd grade policies and expectations! Please sign and return ASAP! Thanks!
