School Counselor

My name is Marlo Wilson.  I have been a School Counselor for over 11 years.  I am married with 3 children, ages, 24, 16 and 15.  My hobbies include watching basketball games and old tv shows.

As a counselor, I have worked with a wide range of students across various demographics and it is my goal that student’s emotional, social and academic goals are met while assisting parents and colleagues in any way possible to ensure student success.

From tackling personal decisions to reaching important milestones, my job is to guide students on the path of success. As a professional School Counselor, I guarantee student growth.

I have a Master of Education degree from Virginia State University, focused on School Counseling and I also have my Administration License from Gardner Webb University.

Exactly what do I do as the school counselor?
Here are some examples:

1) Providing individual counseling:  Here the students have a chance to open up more and not hold back feelings as they typically would in a group or classroom setting.  One-on-One settings can assist the student with such things as behavior issues (personal/social traits) in the classroom.

2) Classroom Guidance:  Providing a school wide character program ensures that every student has the same opportunity to become globally competitive and productive citizens in a changing world by teaching them the character traits they will need in order to do so.

3) Groups: Group sessions are able to assist students in developing personal/social, academic, and career traits.  Students are given the opportunity to choose which groups they are most interested in and then once a group is offered in relation to their interests they will be invited to join.  Groups offer students an opportunity to be a part of something special, something just for them, and sometimes this is just what kids need.
